Quora: Can You Make It Passive Income?
If you don’t know what the Quora Partner Program is, I recommend you go check out one of my previous posts Quora Partner Program – How Much Can You Really Earn?. It gives a complete rundown of the program and some details about the earnings system.
It’s been a little over a year since I joined the program and I’ve asked probably in the range of 700-1000 questions. Most of which should, in theory, earn something. The question I’ll be addressing now is how much passive income is generated from that many questions when you stop posting. Is Quora really a viable method of making passive income?
Like most things, the answer to that question is a little more complex than a simple yes or no. The truth is, it depends. It depends on how much you want to be making, how much work you want to put in, and what your other sources of income are.
I stopped regularly asking questions on Quora a few months back, things got busy for me and I just forgot about it. I occasionally checked in to read some interesting answers or ask a genuine question, but the regular 10 questions a day became less and less of a priority.
Once you become a partner you don’t lose that status when you stop posting so I was still earning money on all the questions I had previously asked. At first my earnings stayed close to $1/day but after a few weeks this was cut roughly in half.
I expected the trend to continue to $0 but to my surprise it remained steady, bouncing between $0.30-$0.60/day. With the occasional addition of a question or two I was able to maintain this, even now, I still earn the same amount.
The initial work of asking 800ish questions took maybe 10 hours total. That’s a rough estimate and most of the time I would be doing something else while writing them. My total earnings to date are $215.87, is you divide that out to an hourly rate it comes to $21.59 per hour of work.
The payoff for that work can take a while but you don’t have to do much to maintain it. For less than 10 hours of work I’ve created a recurring income of roughly $15 each month. It’s definitely not enough to pay the bills but hey, I’m not one to turn down free money.
For some people coming up with questions is not how they like to spend their free time. I get it, I used to hate it too, for them I would suggest something else more suited to their tastes. But if you enjoy thinking up new questions and learning new things, Quora is a great way to do so while building up a small amount of passive income.
